I seem to have a dancer in the family…

  • Why Choose NZYBC?

At NZYBC, your child’s safety, wellbeing, and future success are at the centre of everything we do. We combine world-class training with a culture of care that ensures every dancer is supported to thrive - not only as an artist but as a person.

  • Parents choose NZYBC because we offer:

Excellence in Training — NZQA-approved qualifications and daily coaching in ballet and contemporary dance.

Performance Opportunities — real-world stage experience through tours, festivals, and productions.

Holistic Care — we prioritise your child’s hauora (wellbeing) across physical, mental, emotional, and cultural dimensions .

Trustworthy Support — a team of tutors, pastoral staff, and health professionals walking alongside every dancer.

  • How We Support Your Child

We know that sending your child to full-time dance training is a big step. That’s why we ensure comprehensive support in every area:

    Wellbeing & Hauora:
We use the Te Whare Tapa Whā framework to safeguard health and balance - from physiotherapy and nutrition to pastoral care and counselling

    Academic Flexibility:
Students may continue their academic studies (NCEA, Te Kura, or other distance learning) alongside dance, ensuring their education remains secure and future-proof.

    Cultural Care:
NZYBC is committed to respecting identity, culture, and language. We provide a supportive, inclusive environment where every dancer is valued .

  • Homestay Options

Living with an approved homestay family is a wonderful way for a dancer to become part of a whānau while away from their own home.

Our homestay families are carefully selected for their warmth and ability to support young dancers.

Many hosts also have children training with our sister school, Convergence Dance Studios, so they understand the demands of dance life.

Students often build lasting friendships with their homestay family, creating lifelong bonds and a sense of belonging in Christchurch.

Homestay placements are available for all NZYBC students - domestic and international.

  • How Fees Are Protected

We know financial security is a concern for families. All student tuition fees are safeguarded through the Public Trust Student Fee Protection Scheme, in line with NZQA’s requirements. This ensures that your investment in your child’s future is fully protected.

Check out our Fee Structure and Policy document below for more details.

  • Policies

We are committed to transparency and fairness.

Refund Policies: Outlined clearly in the Student Guide and available on DSP.

Feedback Pathway: Students and parents can raise concerns directly with staff, or through our formal complaints process, with access to external resolution via NZQA if needed,
