NZYBC International Students

  • Welcome to New Zealand & Christchurch

Studying at NZYBC means joining a vibrant, safe, and supportive community in the heart of Christchurch. Our city offers a balance of cultural richness, natural beauty, and a welcoming atmosphere for students from all over the world.

From the moment you arrive, our dedicated international team will guide you through orientation, introduce you to your new home, and make sure you feel settled and supported.

  • Orientation Programme

Every international student begins with a full orientation programme covering:

Life in New Zealand and Christchurch

    Academic expectations and timetables

    Health, safety, and wellbeing support

    Cultural awareness and integration

Practical guidance (bank accounts, public transport, mobile phones, libraries)

  • Homestay & Accommodation Support

Living in a homestay is one of the best ways to experience Kiwi culture and feel part of a family.

All our homestay families are carefully selected, vetted, and trained to provide a safe, caring, and supportive environment.

Students receive three meals daily, their own furnished room, and are welcomed into family activities.

We regularly check in with both students and homestays to ensure everyone is thriving.

Other accommodation options, such as designated caregivers or university halls of residence (for older students), are also available in line with the Code of Practice.

  • Insurance & Visa Guidance

All international students are required to have comprehensive medical and travel insurance for the full duration of study. NZYBC works with Uni-Care Insurance and can arrange this for you.

Students must hold a valid Fee-Paying Student Visa issued by Immigration New Zealand before starting classes. Our team provides full support with documentation, enrolment letters, and compliance checks, but we recommend using a licensed Immigration Adviser for visa advice.

  • 24/7 Emergency & Pastoral Care

Your safety and wellbeing are our priority.

A 24/7 emergency phone line is available for all international students.

Our pastoral care team includes academic mentors, health and wellbeing staff, and residential care coordinators.

We check in with you regularly, academically, socially, and emotionally, to make sure you are thriving both on and off stage.

  • Policies

We are committed to transparency and fairness.

Refund Policies: Outlined clearly in the Student Guide and available on DSP.

Feedback Pathway: Students and parents can raise concerns directly with staff, or through our formal complaints process, with access to external resolution via NZQA if needed,

Policies & Procedures: All key policies (Health & Safety, Privacy, Assessment, Appeals) are available in the Student Login Portal for review.
